I know it's been awhile. What's happened since July 18th, let's recap.
During the week I'm working, of course, and I've also started a study for a PHD student where I get paid to taste and smell stuff, so I'm doing that. And I'm working out for the triathlon that is on it's way, and having a good time whenever I can.
The weekend of 23-34, I had another event with FIRST robotics. IRI (Indiana Regional Invitational) is the summer event for the robots used in this past spring's event. Everyone gets to have another go at competing and you get to see everyone again, more prizes given away, scholarships and such. A great time.
I was asked to be the Field Supervisor, which means I am in charge of making sure the field is setup correctly, working correctly, reset correctly and quickly, the flow of the game keeps going, any problems are fixed quickly, and it is a fair contest between all participants. It's a lot to do but a heck of a lot of fun. But it's pretty much a three day job and that's all, I'd like to get more involved with helping out throughout the year.
So thursday we drove down to indy to setup the field, then drove back to lafayette. Friday at 6am we drove back to Indy for competitions all day, I stayed there, went out to BW3s with people helping then crashed with a friend. And Saturday had competition all day, then the finals, tore down the feild and then went to have some fun with the "party" crowd of FIRST.
All good people, we ended up getting a limo for the entire night so no one would have to drive. Went to dinner and then went to Broad Ripple at a bar called Rock Lobster. This was a lot of fun hanging out with these guys and getting to know one of the professionals on more of a personal level. Very good guy that's done a lot of things in his life, and is now president of an awesome company. He's the one that paid for most of the entertainment for the evening. I can't use names here because I found out that someone did a search on him and it linked them to my journal of when I posted his name last time I met him. Funny.
After Broad Ripple we ended up jumping back in the limo and ended up at a "shoe show." Not a place I visit very often, since it really doesn't do it for me. Not like I'd want to meet any of them. And we sat around and talked for quite awhile.
Then around 4am we headed back to the hotel, and the Pres. and I were left talking when everyone else went to bed or passed out. Good guy, has good values, loves to party, keeps it interesting, and can drink almost anyone under the table. And always has great stories about his life, wife, kids and such.
Woke up late the next morning. Like I could have woken up earlier?
Drove back to lafayette. Took the equipment back to the HS in the trailer and when I was moving the trailer to a different spot to try to fix something, I hit the rim of one of the tires on the 12" curb and bent it, sliced the tire and had to replace it. I loved the fact that it was a 96 degree day, and I was in the sun doing it. GRRRR
The following week, I had a group of kids coming in to learn about technology. One of the "let's get excited about technology" things we try to do to get them to go to Purdue and become CIMTs. I've gotten bored with it because it's always the same types of kids and they don't want to hear anything you say. Although, I think that's just the way it seems. Like they don't know how to show emotion yet, without getting picked on.
Then it was my birthday on the 27th! YEAH! And it all started Tuesday night. I got a group of friends to go out and celebrate with me, and I was only going to be out till 12:01am, but then they bought me a drink or two and the next thing I knew I had to get a ride to my car in the morning. But it was a good time.
Then Wednesday night I went down to swim with the Triathlon group I'm in and a few of the girls organized a cookout and had a "triathlon" of drinks... I was planning on riding (motorcycle) up to the Fort that night but they talked me into staying the night and leaving early morning. So I had a few with them, played a game I can't think the name of, where you have to get people to guess the word without saying 5 other words. Anywho, then I jumped into bed with one of my teammates husbands, as a joke... Then passed out in the VERY beginning of a movie. Got woken up way to early, and rode up to the Fort at 4am. Ouch.
Thursday was the day three friends and I were going to Cedar Point. I haven't been there in quite some time. I got to the Fort just a little late cause we were planning on leaving at 5:15 and I got there at 5:30... Oops. I jumped into the car and we headed off for some fun. I pretty much slept the entire way there. I feel bad that I didn't go up to the Fort that night.
Cedar Point was a lot of fun, not too much to be said, but if you get there, go ride the dragster. It's awesome! And of course the millenium and wicked twister was good too. We left a little early since we were all beat and some of us had to work Friday.
I had lunch with a friend in Fort Wayne before I bolted back to lafayette for more work then had to be in Indy early Saturday morning for my first triathlon.
I got there at 5:45am, the first to be there that was a participant. Got signed in, got my equipment all ready, talked with the TNT folks. I love that group of people! And before I knew it we were off for the race. It was only a sprint disance (500m swim, 10mi bike, 3mi run) but half way into the swim my calf started cramping. I'm not used to the open water so it was a bit different not being able to see a thing unless you put your head out of the water which is tiring.
None the less I managed a 12 min swim and took my lazy time in the first transition of a little over 3 mins. First time I did it so I took my time. I think I've learned here that I'm not wearing bicycling gloves, less time taken on cleaning off the feet, and I might go without socks for the bike. And running on clips sucks!
The bike portion killed me. For a 10 mile ride I should have done it in about 35 mins, and instead I did it in 48 mins because I had to stop three times. First my tires felt flat so I jumped off just to inflate them a bit (probably my mistake) then a mile down the road the bead on my back tire in one spot popped out so I had a fat spot and it was rubbing so I stopped to deflate a bit and reinflate and holding the bead in, then a mile later it did it again and I figured I could make it back in on the tire none the less but about a mile of it rubbing and it popped. I mean it blew like a gun shot. POW! The guy right behind me kinda freaked out. So I had to stop and replace the tube completely. And with my last CO2 cartridge the bead blew off again while I was putting it on. But the bike van showed up just in time so he fixed it with low pressure, just enough to make it back, but the hilly turns were quite wobbily on low tires.
Then since I had a tough time here and had to run farther than anyone else in my clips when returning my bike, it took me 2 mins to transition the second time. And off I was running. I didn't feel too good running because you never do after jumping off a bike but I managed to have some motivation to catch up to the other TNT members who passed me since I had bike problems and finished with a 7 min/mi pace. Averaging 7:43 min/mi. That's aweseme for me after finishing the bike.
So then Saturday night was supposed to be festivities at the "dancin in the streets" festival in lafayette. I ended up finding a friend there and only two other friends showed up and I was well on my way with having too much beer. It wasn't that great of a night, I was arguing with one friend pretty much the whole night. Nothing serious, just arguing.
All day Sunday I did very little. Watched two movies, had dinner at Scotty's, and went to sleep.
This week has been busy so far. Since school is starting soon I'm trying to get the lab ready and then they tell me that I have to move my office over to a smaller space that was already my storage space. So now I have no time to waste, and I'm so unmotivated that I just took time to write all of this.
Monday, work till 5pm swim training in Indy, dinner with a friend Tuesday, worked till 5pm speed training for running, then Scotty's for my birthday dinner and a midnight softball game Wednesday, worked till 5pm swimming at the Co-Rec, Biking for 11 miles, to dinner with a friend and then a movie, followed by scotty's $5 pitchers. Today, work till probably 6pm, hopefully go run around 7pm if it's not lighting out, then maybe the cactus if anyone is around, or sleep Friday, hopefully i'll start writing in here more often so it doesn't take as long.
And if you're interested in the love life, there isn't one...
I have one girl that probably likes me but I don't want any more than friends, I have another that probably wanted more but now we don't mention it, another that I would like to get to know better but is moving away sometime this fall, one who I met one night and I haven't seen since but have talked to about meeting up a few times, and one that I could see myself with but she's with another. Then two people have friends they want me to meet.
I think I'm good where I'm at for once and I'm just going to go with the flow to see what happens. If someone comes along and we get along and becomes something more then I'll be happy. Otherwise, I'm tired of trying to figure things out.
Love you all! (and maybe that's my issue... but I'm not going to stop being me) |
